Shelly’s red shoes

December 7, 2011

red shoes, red roses, red dresses, red jelly bellys, red 49′ers temporary tattoos…. This beautiful red and gold wedding at Catta Verdera Country Club was the color of love and romance…oh and the 49′ers! So here you have it-something for everyone!

Louisville, Kentucky is one of the most beautiful places in the country! If you’ve been there you know this and if you haven’t you might be thinking really? What was originally a family venture to my Dad’s birth place is now high on my list of favorite travel destinations. My first trip was only a few years ago and I wondered how this gem of a place had been skipped over from our family vacations for so many years. I assume since there is no longer family there it was passed over, but the friends there are like family so I have now deemed it worthy of future trips-and it really doesn’t take any convincing!

So what is there to do besides the Derby?(And that is of course on my wish list)  So much!! A requirement of good travel destinations is good food- and there is lots of it! The fall color was spectacular, so of course I took a lot of photos. I went on a bike ride along the river, horseback riding and……yes bourbon tasting! I’m not much of a bourbon drinker but of course ‘when in Rome’! And what better way to enjoy it than to see where it is made and how it all started.

Just outside of Louisville is the Maker’s Mark Distillery. We happened to be there on what I think was called Ambassador’s Day-similar to a wine club, their members got to bottle, dip and stamp their own. The tour took us through the entire facility and ended in the tasting room with bourbon and my favorite-the bourbon chocolates soooooo gooood!!

Singin’ in the rain

December 1, 2011

Need some inspiration for your winter photos? Well…these aren’t so chilly ( it is California after all). But we do have cocktails, burgers and an umbrella!! What more could you want??

Hana Hou!

November 18, 2011

Hana Hou! Hana Hou! Meaning-’One more time’ or “Encore’, also the name of the Hawaiian Airlines magazine…also the name of a great dive bar in Chinatown to which I found extreme entertainment in shouting ‘Hana Hou!’ after each karaoke performance.

So where the heck have I been? Well other than the karaoke bar in Chinatown? Actually working busily through the wedding season and apparently neglecting my posts. I have lots of weddings and engagement sessions to post as well as travels and food. This pic will be my little tide me over as I get my head out of the warm beautiful beaches of Oahu and back to work mode.

So here is an amazing rainbow over Honolulu. To the right you can even see a faint double rainbow happening. Aren’t rainbows just amazing?? Hana Hou!! (try it! it’s fun to say-and I’ve decided it’s appropriate in all situations)

This wedding was at the beautiful Wine in Roses in Lodi. I love this location for so many reasons. The venue is lush and green everywhere so there are endless options for photos. There is a spacious outdoor ceremony area and a gorgeous ballroom for the reception. I’ve also had a small wedding in another courtyard area so it accommodates all size events. The staff is great so events always run smoothly-and the food is excellent!! It’s also a great wine tasting spot!

We had a bit of surprise weather for this one but it all worked out perfectly! Rather than expected June sunshine we were looking out for rain. Thankfully it stayed away and we had cool weather and overcast skies. I think it went perfectly with the shades of blue that Kimberly chose. I loved all the details and of course the shoes!

This couple was so much fun to photograph and they had an awesome group of family and friends. I especially appreciated all the parents and grandparents. Her dad proudly shared a homemade photo mug he created with old family photos as he toasted to them in celebration of the beginning of their new family and new mugs to create. It was really special to be surrounded by so many examples of successful marriages.

What a pleasure it was to photograph these two! Rita is such a sweet and beautiful person on the inside and out!  They had a lovely ‘winter’ wedding in February (weather was gorgeous and hardly winter) at the Sutter Club. I love the feel of the old building and they made good use of the space allowing guests to experience all of it! The ceremony and cocktail hour were downstairs, guests then made their way upstairs to a formal dinner and then returned downstairs after it had been transformed into a dance space, dessert bar and cigar lounge. Here are some of the details:

Rita got ready at The Citizen Hotel. Hair and Makeup by Make-Up Artistry by Liz and Marly’s Hair and Make-up. Flowers by Botanica, Dessert Bar by Sweet Cakes by Rebecca, Dj Tom Fretwell did music and lighting, Ceremony music by the lovely Peggy Brown on Harp, Photobooth by Rocketbooths, Cigar lounge by Casillas Cigars and by coordination by Fearon May Events. There was also Mariachi band that greeted guests for the cocktail hour-which I personally just love!

Excited to be a part of this magazine! They have so much great local information. I was drawn to it by their great covers and clean layouts. I think they do such a great job in showing a diverse group of weddings and I’ve had numerous comments from clients saying how much they love this magazine and that it is their favorite!

So I was thrilled when they chose my photos to be featured! These are 2 weddings that were featured in the last 2 issues. To see the full issues go to realweddingsmag.com They are a great resource for all your vendors, information on upcoming bridal shows, events and contests!

Also check out the online version of these weddings and get advice from the brides from Briana and Aaron and Mallory and Stephen
